About Us

Epworth is a United Methodist congregation that has had a viable presence in the Eufaula area since 1840. Epworth flourished as a preaching station for Methodist Circuit Riders. The small, wood-framed church was originally built across the street from the present Epworth location and often resounded with the fervent singing and passionate preaching of Methodist evangelists and parishioners who loved the Lord.

As was often the case with Southern churches, Epworth established a cemetery. Some of the graves found there are from as early as 1850, and you will find gravestones from fallen Confederate soldiers located there. Epworth Cemetery remains one of the best-kept church cemeteries in Barbour County.

Though we are old in years, Epworth is very 21st century in worship. We are contemporary in worship style, casual in dress and technology is a part of our Church life. It is not uncommon for people to refer to Epworth as "one of the friendliest and genuinely loving congregations they have ever experienced." Join us for worship and experience the difference!
